Sustainability in Practice – how PPS supports your ESG goals
Sustainability is now an integrated part of most companies’ operations – driven partly by regulation, partly by demands across the value chain, and increasingly by societal expectations from customers, partners, and investors.
That said, companies differ in how far they have progressed in their sustainability efforts. At PPS, we work with organizations that have clearly defined ESG targets – and with those still balancing operational efficiency, documentation requirements, and resource consumption.
But what they all have in common is – to varying degrees – that they face external and internal pressure to act. Therefore, the question is no longer why, but how to implement sustainability in ways that are effective, measurable, and future-proof.
That’s where technology – and smart integration – play a key role.
Known Targets – New Requirements
Today, production companies typically focus on:
- Reducing material waste and energy consumption
- Transitioning to recyclable materials, e.g., mono-material blister packs
- Documenting environmental impact in connection with new investments
- Ensuring that new equipment is scalable and future-compliant
This creates a clear need for solutions where sustainability is not an afterthought, but a core design principle.
PPS’ Approach: Sustainable Solutions with Measurable Impact
At PPS, we help companies take concrete steps toward more sustainable production and packaging processes. We do this by offering a portfolio of technologies and partners that combine proven industrial performance with reduced environmental impact.

✅ Print-on-Demand with PharmaJet: Less Waste, More Flexibility
Our in-house developed PharmaJet inline label printer is a strong example of sustainable technology in action. It prints full-color and all variable data directly in the production flow. This eliminates the need for pre-printed labels and reduces both waste and inventory.
The benefits:
- Significantly reduced material waste
- Shorter changeover times and faster time-to-market
- Flexible late-stage customization
- Lower CO₂ footprint across the entire labelling process

♻️ Mono-Material Blister Packaging: Ready for Recycling
Traditional blister packs are typically made from multiple layers of plastic and aluminum – a combination that provides excellent barrier properties but makes recycling nearly impossible.
Together with our partner IMA, we offer solutions designed for mono-material use, such as PharmaGuard, a PP-based blister film developed by IMA and Südpack. The material maintains high barrier performance while enabling better recyclability, and it’s compliant with the upcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation 2025/40 (PPWR).

🌍 IMA ZERO: A Partnership with Sustainability at Its Core
IMA’s ambitious sustainability program, IMA ZERO, sets the direction for tomorrow’s machines and processes. It ensures that sustainability is embedded throughout the machine lifecycle – from design and materials to energy efficiency and traceability integration.
As a PPS customer, you gain access to:
- Equipment with reduced energy consumption and lower CO₂ emissions
- Optimized production lines with minimal waste and downtime
- Durable solutions with longer lifecycles and lower total cost of ownership
- Technical documentation for ESG and CSR reporting
